World Travel Market 2013 supports Just a Drop & brings clean water to over 400 children in Kenya

This year, the monies raised at WTM will fund a specific project to bring clean water to two schools in Kenya. WTM is also covering the costs for four staff members who will visit the project in January, accompanied by two Just a Drop members of staff.

Meet the team who are going on the trip and find out what their hopes and expectations are!

JUST A DROP:

Mike Reynolds Mike Reynolds – project engineer and trustee, Just a Drop

Ex-British Army officer Colonel Mike Reynolds has worked on all seven continents and is now a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. An old hand in Africa, he gained an interest in water projects whilst serving with the Brigade of Ghurkas in Nepal.

Mike is our project engineer in Uganda and has also helped to coordinate a number of our projects in Kenya and will be accompanying the WTM team on their project visit in January.

Working closely with Just a Drop’s local partners, Mike tries to get villages and schools themselves involved in implementing the work because, “That way, people will take ownership and more pride in their new water source.” he says.

Nicola Baskerville Nicola Baskerville – events and administration manager, Just a Drop

Nicola has a degree in Environmental Science and has worked within the charitable sector for the majority of her career including volunteer work for the Environment Trust. Nicola joined Just a Drop in April 2012 and although she has visited parts of Africa before, this visit will be her first trip as a Just a Drop representative. Nicola is a keen photographer which she looks forward to putting into action during the trip.

WORLD TRAVEL MARKET:

Simon Press Simon Press – senior exhibition director

Simon has been employed by Reed Travel Exhibitions for the last five years, working with WTM for three of those. In December 2012 Simon received his Senior Exhibition Director role in recognition of his efforts and wide ranging initiatives from the expansion of the WTM Vision conference platform across the world and the introduction of Social Travel Market to the development of Decisionmakers.TV.

Simon constantly looks to innovate and deliver new facets to WTM including looking at the online and social community opportunities around responsible tourism linking this to WTM’s World Responsible Tourism Day.

A former Captain and Officer of the British Army, he served for four years in the Cheshire Regiment (Infantry Regiment). He has played rugby extensively and is now a keen supporter.

Amy Francis Amy Francis – sales executive, WTM

I have been working for Reed Exhibitions for just over six years now, and the last five on WTM, currently as sales executive for the Asia, Africa and Middle East regions of the show. Over these years, I’ve seen Just a Drop go from strength to strength and I’ve helped with all sorts of fundraising days, even dressing as a smurf in the name of charity!

I’ve currently stopped smoking and drinking for Stoptober, and I’m being sponsored for it in the name of Just a Drop – I must be mad!

I’m an avid Weymouth FC fan and coffee addict and I’ve only ever been to Africa once before when I was 10. I’m really looking forward to going back to Kenya and visiting the project in January; it’ll be a totally different side to this amazing country that I didn’t see last time. Although, I cried at ‘Finding Nemo’, so I’ll have to find some inner strength from somewhere!

Erin Sugden Erin Sugden – operations executive, WTM

I have worked in the Travel, Tourism and Events sector since completing my degree. I have had the chance to work in a number of areas within the industry from cabin crew to ski resort host and now the operations of events. These roles have given me the chance to meet some interesting people and travel to some amazing places. It has been my time working on WTM where I have become familiar with Just a Drop’s work and have been inspired to help in all their onsite campaigns which has lead me to the project that WTM supported in Kenya which I feel incredibly honoured to be a part of.

Charlotte Sutton Charlotte Sutton – conference and seminar manager, WTM

I have been working at Reed Exhibitions on World Travel Market for five years starting as a Marketing Executive and working my way up to my current position. I am very passionate about events and graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with an Events Management degree. I enjoy socialising, skiing and horse riding in my spare time.

I have been very lucky to travel to some amazing places with Reed and to be going out to Kenya is a dream come true. I feel very privileged and inspired to be seeing the hard work Just a Drop is doing out there.
