Turismo Chile touts new BA service to Santiago at WTM London 2016

British Airways will launch the only direct service between London and the Chilean capital Santiago on January 3rd, 2017.

The national tourist board, Turismo Chile, will be at World Travel Market London (November 7-9) to promote the new link, which will be BA’s longest route.

It will take 14 hours 40 minutes, nearly an hour more than the current longest flight of 13 hours 50 minutes to Buenos Aires.

The four-times-a-week service will be flown by the airline’s newest aircraft, the four-cabin Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, complete with a new First cabin.

BA said it was launching the flight because of Chile’s growing economy and its “enormous appeal” to leisure travellers – “especially those looking for adventure, exploration and experiences, thanks to its outstanding and diverse natural beauty and attractions and its great food and wine”.

Santiago can offer sports enthusiasts the chance to go skiing and snowboarding, or trekking in the Andes.

The country’s natural wonders range from the driest desert in the world, to lakes and glaciers, and huge swathes of national park.

Chile also has a rich culture, from Easter Island to Valparaiso’s old quarter, which has UNESCO heritage site status.

Tourismo Chile will also be at WTM London to promote other tourism developments, such as new hot air balloon flights over the Atacama Desert and next year’s 40th anniversary of Bruce Chatwin’s famous book, In Patagonia.
